Spring is almost here and so is our workshop season! One of the things I love to do is invest in others a set of new skills!
This spring we have FOUR workshops that will do just that!
April 13 WORKSHOPS are all about using LARD to create products you can use in your home!
10AM -1PM Candle, Healing Salve, and Lip Balm Class
In this 2.5-3 hour class we will cover simple methods to create balms, salves and candles using the simplest of ingredients! A MKONO Farm charcuterie grazing board will be set out for snacking along with a coffee bar, tea, and some cold drink options. Class starts at 10AM on April 13th, 2024.
What we will cover in the class :
- Safety gear and precautions
- Balm making
- Salve Making
- Candle Making
What you will create:
- A lip balm
- A healing salve
- A candle
You will go home with
- A 2oz lip balm
- A 4 oz Healing salve
- A 8oz candle
- A manual and recipe guide
In this 2.5-3 hour class we will cover both soap processing methods using the simplest of ingredients! A MKONO Farm charcuterie grazing board will be set out for snacking along with a coffee bar, tea, and some cold drink options. Class starts at 3PM on April 13, 2024.

- Cold processing method
- info on how to create your own recipes
What you will create:
- Hot process soap
- Cold process soap
You will go home with
- 1lb mold and loaf of hot process soap
- Cold process mold filled with soap for curing at home
- Lard soap recipes and processing manual
Next we have a full day workshop …
April 27th WORKSHOP is a FULL day EVENT | Harvesting, Preparing, and Butchering a PIG
9AM- FINISH Harvest & Butchering Class
This event is SPONSORED by the Kunekune Pork Producers Association
IN this FULL day event (7-8 hours) ,students will take part in a farm to table class where they will learn how to breakdown a hog from beginning to end.
The day will start at 9AM dispatch. Learning the proper methods and techniques of dispatch.
Students will observe how to prep for and complete a scald and scrape preparation of the pig.
Farm to Table lunch will be served as part of the class. (kunekune pork based lunch of course)
After lunch…
Students will watch and learn through a demonstration of a larger kunekune hog carcuss (that was prepared days in advance) being broke down into cuts that make the most sense for heritage breed hogs and why. The entire pig will be broke down into popular and profitable cuts utilizing each side to show all of the diverse cuts that you can get from a hog.
There will be lots of time for conversation, friend making, and Q & A!
The cuts will be divided up between the class participants to take home as bounty for a hard day of learning!
*There will be a filming crew on site filming this workshop. All participants will need to sign a media release waiver.
Lastly, there is this 1/2 day event …
May 11th Workshop is all about Pasture Pork for Homestead or Profit
10AM- FINISH Pasture Pork Workshop
In this 4-5 hour class students will learn a variety of skills based on the keeping of pasture pigs-specifically the kunekune pig for homestead, farmstead, or for profit.
Items to be discussed and taught :
Husbandry methods as well as pros/cons of a grower operation
VS
Husbandry methods as well as pros/cons of farrow to fork operation
Pasture planting for pigs
Silvo-pasture for pigs
Feed and conversion
Harvesting: What cuts are most valuable & profitable from a heritage pig, how to talk to your butcher, fill out a cut sheet, and more…
Cost calculation for self or for profit
Q & A
FARM to TABLE lunch served.
Students will go home with a custom workbook full curated with the information discussed and the notes they have taken!
