Did your day start with burnt bacon?

That is the worst!!!

You tracked down that package of delicious farm fresh bacon that was raised by a friendly face and free from all the JUNK found in commercialized products and it was ruined….in one bad moment between you and a pretentiously hot skillet.

You burned the bacon!  UGH, I soooo feel YOU!

It’s totally ok to be emotional over this. The powerful influence of bacon and its yummy ways can ignite emotions.

I have been in your shoes!

There is HOPE though! HOPE that you will never burn your farm fresh bacon again!

The simplest way to ensure that you won’t burn bacon again is to use your oven.

Leave that cast iron skillet for a frittata or breakfast skillet cake. Use the oven for the bacon, folks.

COLD OVEN baking is what it is most referred to as.

Here are the fool proof steps to ensure your bacons are never burnt again…

1. Line your cookie sheet with parchment paper
2. Line the parchment paper with your farm fresh bacon ensuring that nothing overlaps.
3. Set your bacon filled cookie sheet into the oven on the middle rack.
4. Turn your oven on to 400 (regular or convection) (DO NOT preheat your oven..this is the correct step for turning it on)
5. Set your alarm for 13 minutes to give it a peek. (Bake for 13-17 minutes*)

*For those of you that like chewy bacon 13 minutes might be your jam. For those of you that like crispy bacon you might have to leave it for 16-17 minutes.

What do you do if you have a household of bacon eating monsters and need more than one cookie sheet of bacon baked?

You can use both racks in your oven. Just realize that the bacon on the bottom rack will need to be moved to the top rack after you take the top cookie sheet out. You are looking at another 3-5 minutes of baking for that second cookie sheet.

Other things to consider…

Sweet bacons are going to have a tendency to burn faster than a savory bacon. Do your due diligence to check the oven if you are baking a bacon that has a sweet cure on it.

The sweetened cure may blacken….but not burn. So try it first before throwing it out!

You can also consider taking it out of the oven and allowing it to finish cooking in the hot grease of the cookie sheet then remove from the sheet and onto a paper towel after a 5 minutes.
